The BABIES are here!

Next week will bring us the fabulous new documentary that takes a look at one year in the life of four babies from around the world, from Mongolia to Namibia to San Francisco to Tokyo. The babies are incredibly cute and the study of cultures seem like it will be very interesting. This is definitely a must.

The Babies arrive on May 7th, 2010. Check your local listings for show times.

Moo Shoo who?

I'm a little embarrassed to admit that before last week I had never tried Moo Shoo. It's in every fast food Chinese restaurant menu in NYC and for some reason I always skipped it...Maybe because I had no idea what it was. Well, I finally had it and was gagging over how amazing and easy the dish is. Of course, I had to make my own version. Here it goes boys and girls. Easy Moo Shoo for a very quick dinner.

Ruddy's Moo Shoo

Ingredients:
1/2 a cabbage (shredded)
3 tablespoons of sesame oil
2 cups of shrimp, 2 cups of chicken (in strips), or 2 cups of seitan (pick one)
Chopped up scallions
Chopped up portobello mushrooms
1 thinly sliced carrot
soy sauce

Preparation:
As you can see, I do not provide amounts for some of the ingredients. That is because this recipe is super flexible and you can put as much as you want in the pot. You can also add in other veggies than the ones I have listed. Bok Choy, edamame, sprouts, and red bell peppers all work really well in this as long as you slice them thinly.

1. In a big pot, or wok, add sesame oil. When warm add in your protein (shrimp, chicken, or seitan). Season with only salt and pepper.

2. When protein is cooked add in the mushrooms, carrots, and scallions. After about 5-7 minutes everything should be looking delicious and golden brown.

3. Add in the soy sauce and then finally add in all of the shredded cabbage.

4. Cover the pot and lower the heat. After 7 minutes open the pot and stir everything around. Close the lid again and stir again in 7 minutes.

5. Open the pot and add a little more soy sauce (to taste) and then you are pretty much ready to enjoy. The cabbage should be very much cooked down and delicious.
*Note: Moo Shoo is also known for the preparation with a pancake and hoisin sauce that holds the cabbage filling. I decided that I did not want to take it there for this recipe because part of the goal is to have something simple I can make in about 20 minutes.

America's next top tranny

After season 2 of Rupaul's Drag Race I officially declare that Tyra Banks had it all wrong with America's next top model. Miss Ru has the right idea, bringing people with real talent to compete and show off their amazing skills at the art of female impersonation. The show this season not only brought the drama, but it also brought a more in depth look at the background of many of these talented individuals. I suggest you go online this weekend and have your self a drag marathon. The time has come to be officially obsessed with this show, no shame!

If you are already a fan I think you will LOVE this great article by Rich Juzwiak, who got to go behind the scenes at the ReUnited show that brought all the trannies back together one last time. He also took amazing pictures. Enjoy!

Dazzler VS Dark Phoenix

*Fonografiks has been having some fun re-designing classic comic book covers. These two stood out with me because let's face it, I'm a huge X-men geek. Which of these ladies has the best cover? Below you can see the original covers as intended.

Robe style, the Japanese way

I can't wait to go to Japan so I can finally get my hands on some amazing looking robes like the ones these two gentlemen are sporting. The Sartorialist is having a visual feast in japan right now, I don't know if he will ever be the same. lol

Disney characters take on fashion

I think this is so adorable! Disney takes on the fashion world in the new issue of Elle Spain. I think my favorite is the one of Karl going to the Chanel store. What do you think? Is this cute enough to make you go out and buy the issue?

Who's that girl!?Gracie Carvalho

Sometimes you are flipping through magazines, looking at music videos, or walking down the street, and you bump into some sort of Goddess woman who deserves your total attention. I have decided to start a little recurring post for those special women. I will start with the Brazilian girl who is on the cover of Hercules SS10. She is absolutely stunning! Maybe I should start this type of post for the guys as well. There's a lot of eye candy out there.

Enjoy Gracie Carvalho

Blue Ribbon Bakery is a MUST!

I brunched at Blue Ribbon Bakery last weekend in celebration of a friends birthday. I have never been to a restaurant that had its own legitimate bakery on the premises. The smell of all the delicious and freshly baked bread was enough to make me want to go into a full carb attack. And I did. As we waited for our food (I got the amazing steak sandwich, which was cooked to perfection) we got some baskets of this now legendary bread. I could not eat fast enough! I was mad that other people were there at one point because I wanted it all for myself. The waiting staff was also incredibly friendly and made us feel like we owned the place. I recommend you go with a big group of friends and reserve the private table downstairs by the bakery. It will change your life.

Michelle Obama does Traveler Magazine

In this legendary issue, Michelle Obama becomes the only first lady to ever pose for Traveler magazine. The insight she provides on Washington DC, her family, her experiences with the previous first ladies, and on her upbringing is incredible. I had to get the issue, not only because of it's amazing cover, but the article on Michelle is very well written and gives you a sneak peak into someone you thought you already knew everything about.

The fabulous Sahara Davenport

Ms. Sahara Davenport, from Rupaul's drag race season 2, worked it out for my polaroid camera last night. Cristina and I went to check out Sahara at her weekly gig at therapy Bar and found Sahara doing a show that was full of energy and most of all an homage to all things DIVA.

Check out Sahara's official web page.

It's Mexican Sangria time!

My official Summer drink is going to be Margaritas this year. I know this already because I have been really getting into tequila lately, but why not share the love and try new things? I saw Mexican Sangria on the Design Sponge blog. Looks like a delicious brakes from my upcoming margaritas...

Ingredients:
1 bottle of red wine (we prefer to use Sarloos and Sons red)
1 cup of tequila (we prefer to use 1800 Silver)
1/2 a cup of orange juice (living in such an organic environment we only drink organic orange juice from New Frontiers in Solvang, CA)
1/2 a cup of brown organic sugar
1/4 cup of fresh squeezed organic lime juice
1 sliced organic red apple (and other fruit if you desire – raspberries, watermelon, oranges, mangos, etc)

Mixology:
In a pitcher mix ingredients in this specific order. Add ice to chill. The longer it sits in the pitcher the more flavorful it will be. Using a little lime juice, give the glasses a nice brown-sugar rim and then serve and enjoy!

Garance Dore for Elle UK

Garance gets her first magazine cover and its definitely a must have. It's just a simple portrait of actress Demi Moore, but it stands out brilliantly because magazine covers usually do not have illustrations on them. I am running out on my lunch break on the hunt for this. It has to be in my coffee table collection!

Michael Myers makes vintage super heroes

I'm a sucker for anything comic book inspired. Take a look at Michael Myers new series of vintage super heroes. They are clean and colorful with a touch of vintage. Go get some prints and frame for a polished look.

Free Will Astrology is officially in my bookmarks

I have never been one to believe in horoscopes. I know people that read them everyday and go as far as making life decisions based on what a horoscope tells them to do. For some time I have been randomly reading Free Will Astrology by Rob Brezny and now I'm hooked. One day I was reading the NY Village Voice and I stumbled upon my horoscope. It did not say anything dramatic or Earth shattering, but it was like reading advice from a friend. You didn't really have to be of that particular sign to take something away from the message and I found it more philosophical than anything else. I started reading all of the horoscope signs and found that they are just good advise in general, for anyone, without mixing in all of the astrological jumbo. I suggest you bookmark this or go out and get the book. And make sure you read more than just your own horoscope!

I posted mine for the week of April 15th 2010, just so you can get a taste:

Cancer: First the negatives: Don't be a martyr to what you've won. Don't let your success oppress you. Don't become a slave to the useful role you've earned. Don't neglect your own needs as you serve the needs of those who admire you for what you give. Now let's try a more positive way to frame the challenges ahead of you: Keep questioning whether the fruits of your victories are still enjoyable and fulfilling to you. Make sure the triumphs of the past don't get in the way of the potential triumphs of the future. Find out how your success may need to evolve. Push beyond what's good and head in the direction of what's great.

Pineapple Fried Rice at Mo-Ra-Kote will get you addicted

I have an addiction and its called Pineapple fried rice. Mo-Ra-Kote is one of the best Thai places out there because the food is fresh, has a very "home made" feeling, and the staff is super friendly. The Pineapple fried rice with shrimp is so amazing that I went back for another round in the same week. You have to go and try this. I also had the delicious curry puffs and the Tom Kha soup. After I got the bill I wrote on the receipt, "This is the best fried rice in the world!".

Astral Projection @ Cielo

A big thank you to Liam Pilotin, who captured an awesome moment of dancing and fun at Cielo while we jammed to DJ Center. This looks like my body is going into the astral world and I'm about to meet a higher power. I love it, mostly because lately I have been feeling like my spirit is leaving my body and bringing good vibes to everyone around me.

Konnichiwa Batman!

I love Japanese Batman! He is so much cooler and slimmer than his American counterpart. I might have to pick up a copy of this just for the artwork.
