Souen's Kuzu stew

The Seafood and Vegetable *Kuzu Stew at Souen is fantastical! It has shrimp, scallop, white fish, and vegetables in *kuzu broth served with brown rice. I get happy every time I eat a bowl. Oh, and when you go on the site do not get scared with the word Macrobiotic. This is what Souen's site uses to define the term:

"It is thought that by eating balanced foods such as grains and vegetables that are more local and in season, we can maintain good physical and spiritual health and live in harmony with nature."

The September Issue premier night

This is all I could take away from this premier; Cassie does not look too bad with half her head shaved off and Marc Jacobs loves skirts and is now sporting a clutch. I secretly love it, except it looks like his boyfriend let a 3rd grader dress him. ooops!

Should I give up my precious meat?

I really love meat, but people are always trying to save money and mass produce, so every time I eat my precious pork, it's not really pork. Here's a bit I found from a Time.com article called Americas Food Problem and How to Fix It by Bryan Walsh.

"Somewhere in Iowa, a pig is being raised in a confined pen, packed in so tightly with other swine that their curly tails have been chopped off so they won't bite one another. To prevent him from getting sick in such close quarters, he is dosed with antibiotics. The waste produced by the pig and his thousands of pen mates on the factory farm where they live goes into manure lagoons that blanket neighboring communities with air pollution and a stomach-churning stench. He's fed on American corn that was grown with the help of government subsidies and millions of tons of chemical fertilizer. When the pig is slaughtered, at about 5 months of age, he'll become sausage or bacon that will sell cheap, feeding an American addiction to meat that has contributed to an obesity epidemic currently afflicting more than two-thirds of the population. And when the rains come, the excess fertilizer that coaxed so much corn from the ground will be washed into the Mississippi River and down into the Gulf of Mexico, where it will help kill fish for miles and miles around. Your iPhone needs the Serpent

Here is one bit of advice: if you have an iPhone, DO NOT buy any of the cases at the apple store. They are all pretty much rip offs. Do some research online and get one that you really like. Luisa and I got this one called the serpent and not only is it sturdy and cool looking, but it came with a whole bunch of add ons. Be smart.

Sesame Street fashion

I think it's kinda weird to see Oscar de la Renta and Vera Wang all up in Sesame street, but whatever. I'm just going to go with it because Sessilee is in it. This is all in Harper's September issue 2009.

Do NOT drink decaf until you do the research!

I don't know hoe people get away with this type of stuff, but today i randomly looked at the Starbucks House Blend decaf coffee packaging, only to find the words "Caffeine removed with Methylene Chloride". Honestly, a red flag went up immediately. Anything that says the word chloride is a red flag. Then I googled it and this is what I found...

"Methylene chloride is produced commercially in large volumes by direct chlorination of methane or methyl chloride. Methylene chloride is an important solvent in paint and varnish strippers and in degreasing agents. It is used in the production of photographic films, synthetic fibers, pharmaceuticals, adhesives, inks, and printed circuit boards. It is employed as a blowing agent for polyurethane foams and as a propellant for insecticides, air fresheners, and paints."

Basically, this is what is used to get rid of the caffeine in the coffee. I am sure that after the process there might be very little or none of the chemical left in the actual blend, but I thought you should know how your decaf coffee is made so that you can research it and decide for yourself.

I had this poster when I was about 10. i think it ended up getting ripped in one of the many moves I had growing up, BUT I just found it on eBay! I can't wait to get my hands on it. Super geek points if anyone can tell me what artist drew this 'cause I have no idea...

Purple Rain is 25 years old!

Prince is a weird mofo. I think I saw Purple Rain over 10 years ago. Thursday night Prospect park had a special 25th anniversary sing along showing of Prince's classic Purple Rain. I went to see the band Escort (who was opening for the event) and to refresh my memory about this pop culture phenomenon. If you have seen the movie then you know I don't have to say anything. The movie speaks for itself and Prince is brilliant. The only thing is that I think it's funny that I love every song ("I would die for you", "When doves cry") in the movie except the tittle track "Purple Rain". lol.

Above is a pic of a true fan, Anitra, who rocked out in a purple wig and those fabulous white shoes. The other sensational young lady in a purple jumpsuit is the lead singer of Escort who did an amazing job.

Have you ever been in a store and found so many things wrong with it that you just had to walk out in disgust? Hollister, I am talking to you!

*Shirtless "help staff" who know almost nothing about the product they are "selling"?

*Almost no light to see any of the product or where you are going for that matter.

*Loud music so that my friend can't even hear me complain about how much I hate the store, which only makes me more aggravated.

Grace Jones is a maneater

I am going to be honest about Grace Jones: I do not like her music at all, BUT she is incredible in some of her films and has a style all her own. She makes the outfits (as weird as they might be) work in her favor and it all comes together into this fierce power fashion demon who will eat any man that gets in her way. I found this old James Bond poster thanks to El Fano's blog and had to post it here. Fabulous!
